Old Souls Lacrosse Club Is…

The Old Souls Lacrosse Club is a 501 (c) 3 Non-Profit that works to grow the game of lacrosse in the Rogue Valley region. We will work to increase access to lacrosse at the youth level through camps, clinics, events and visiting public schools and youth organizations. Old Souls is comprised primarily of SOU Lacrosse Alumni who will also work to connect current and past players to strengthen the shared core values of hard work, family, and inclusivity.

Why and How

Old Souls was founded to connect the professional alumni from diverse backgrounds with the collegiate athletes in an effort to pool together resources and expertise that contribute to growing the game of lacrosse in Southern Oregon. Coach Brown has recognized the opportunity that exists in growing the game at the youth level and is ready to dedicate more of his time to this cause. As alumni, we recognize that the challenges of collegiate club sports are mounting and can prevent teams from focusing on what matters most: academic integrity and 100% effort on the field. For this reason, Old Souls was created to connect alumni from diverse backgrounds such as (but not limited to) business, teaching and public services to give back and grow the game. We have outlined 3 goals in which we we wish to accomplish this:

EVENTS

Old Souls is dedicated to bridging the gap between previous graduates and current athletes to share insights, opportunities and knowledge. Most notably, Old Souls will be hosting the 8th annual Alumni Game, maintaining a strong sense of history, family and togetherness in the program. Growing our annual event and potentially adding more will further aid in completing our mission.

Camps, Clinics and increased access to the Game

By increasing access and opportunities to interact with the game of lacrosse we will foster a positive environment for the game to grow. From visiting schools and youth programs to creating recreational play opportunities, allows for more volunteer and out of the classroom experiences for current players.

Mentoring and support

Student athletes only have so much time to accomplish the many tasks needed to succeed. Club sports also requires more off field duties than their Athletic Department funded counterparts, therefore the Old Souls seeks to connect alumni with club officers and members to offer support and mentorship so that they may find balance and success on and off the field.

How we got here

Old Souls was created by some of the original founding members of the SOU Lacrosse program with the intent to grow the game of lacrosse in the Rogue Valley while also having a positive impact on the lacrosse program. The SOU Lacrosse Program was founded by a group of student athletes in the fall of 2003 and competed in their first season of PNCLL play spring 2005. In the fall of 2010, the program had enough alumni support to hold their first Alumni Game where the current team would face off against the players from the past. Connecting the past and present allowed for a special bond and continuing of traditions that should be utilized and protected. It also fostered an environment in which the alumni collectively realized the good they were capable of doing utilizing their post college experiences. By combining their skills, experiences and resources the Old Souls are now working to provide more lacrosse opportunities for youth in the Rogue Valley region. Old Souls was a direct result of the Alumni game event and the connections it fostered.
